Equality of access

WOULD like to clarify a number of points raised by Harry Stephenson (August 12) on the issue of access to Long Kesh.

Access to the Maze Long Kesh site has been blocked by the DUP since Peter Robinson reneged on the agreement to develop the enormous potential of the overall Maze Long Kesh site, with the loss of the millions of pounds in European funds. Despite this and in response to the request from the Ulster Aviation Society for use of the site the deputy first minster, Martin McGuinness, was happy to agree access to the site across the board but the DUP continues to block this. On the issue of replying to the UAS, the deputy first minister simply cannot respond to such requests without the agreement of the first minister. The office of FMDFM is a joint position and communication from the office can only be issued jointly and by agreement.

On this issue of equality of access and opportunity, as with so many others, there was no DUP agreement.
