McAleese's hurtful comments not helpful to Church

I AM writing in response to some recent comments that were made by Mary McAleese about our present Pope. The comments (June 18) were not in any way helpful to assist our Church and its vicar, Pope Francis, move forward in order to allow the Church to get its negative stigma removed.

As a member of this Church I am trying to find out what gain can be made by these hurtful comments?

I have noticed that Ms McAleese has condemned a forthcoming Bishops' Synod on family and marriage.

I found the words used by Ms McAleese very hurtful and I am a third party to this.

I would assume that the people that the comments were aimed at must also be feeling put down by them. It is a synod of bishops meeting to take a look at the family and marriage. It is not a law being passed or anything being written in stone.

I noticed that Ms McAleese has been studying canon law and theology. As a part of this study she would know that negative comments are so harmful as they kill the cells within the body and they can only be restored by positive comments which also restore that person to life within the being.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions about any subject but by using a public domain to use detrimental comments isn't helpful.

Ms McAleese should keep all negative comments on any subject away from the public as they will never help.

I think she is a great person that has done so many great things in her life but I ask that she brings dignity back to the people she removed it from and please make some positive comments on our great Church in which I am so proud to be a member of.

I thank Ms McAleese for all the good things she has done and may God bless her in her work.
