Bigotry and lack of experience no barriers to a job in government

I must congratulate Belfast councillor Jolene Bunting. She will be an asset to a community that can pride itself on sectarian bigotry. In what other country do we see people of such high calibre elected to local government?

Other countries are impressed by silly things like intellect, experience and merit. Not us - bigotry, low intellect and lack of experience are no barriers to a position in government. Bunting's Facebook comments, which I'm sure most readers will have read at this stage, were of a sickening and despairing nature. She has apologised for writing them but not their content. I'm sorry, I'm a bit lost, what does that mean?

Am I to assume that we Catholics still make her sick, should leave Ireland and go down to Ireland and fly our flags there? Confusing to say the least. Okay she says she wrote them in the wrong way. Sorry Jolene, I'm still confused.

Just what is the right way to write such nauseating sectarian nonsense? I'm afraid miss Bunting was born after her time. She would have thrived well in the 1960s where she would not have had to apologise for - must get this right - writing her true feelings in the wrong way.

Any wonder this country is stuck in a political rut.

Reconciliation of our two communities is a long way off as long as 16 years after the GFA we have a 24-year-old espousing the hatred of her forefathers for the Catholic community?

What do the TUV have to offer, or the DUP for that matter, in terms of reconciliation? It is very simple really, there is no going back.

Having younger members going over the same old rhetoric is not progress it is regression. What a disservice Jim Allister does his people by not leading them towards a society based on equality and mutual respect. What a disservice to all the people of the north of Ireland that are to remain entrenched in bitterness and hatred. If you continue to look backwards don't be surprised that you continually stumble. Councillors and MLAs of Bunting's ilk are a dime a dozen and an embarrassment to all of us.

What a wonderful example they have in our First minister who has also apologised for expressing his true feelings, by supporting Pastor mcConnell. He didn't wish to offend anyone, come on now Peter who are you kidding. In any other political jurisdiction he would have had the decency to resign.
