NGA is autonomous

THE National Graves Association (NGA) wishes to clarify that recent party political commemorations held in Belfast over the Easter period were not held under the auspices of the National Graves Association. The NGA is an autonomous body and is not affiliated to any political party or group.

We would also like to clarify that remarks attributed to the National Graves Association (Irish News, April 23) are incorrect. No representatives of the NGA have been in contact with the British Legion to express regret at damage caused by vandals to headstones in their care.

We would, however, like to take this opportunity to utterly condemn the action of those who damaged the headstones in Belfast's City Cemetery. The Belfast National Graves Association is not affiliated to the National Graves Association. This has been addressed by your paper in the past.
