Going against the grain

PETER Collins who represents 'Academics for Palestine' goes against all that is dear and precious in 'academia' - Dialogue, debate and freedom of speech (March 6).

He encourages a "gathering movement for boycotting Israel". A commendable lesson for students? If you don't agree with someone, why not ban or boycott them. Good examples of this approach, in the past, have been Hitler and Stalin. Thank goodness they failed but not after millions died horrible deaths.

Mr Collins would be better spending his energy in creating a group called Academics for Peace in Israel/ Palestine. Only then can he and his cohorts be taken seriously. ANDREW J SHAW
