Translink not independently monitored

Wish to clarify some of the references made by Pascal McCulla (september 19) to the role of the Consumer Council in relation to translink and the provision of public transport services. Pascal stated that he was informed that translink is independently monitored by the Consumer Council and as such all translink polices are agreed in consultation with the council. the Consumer Council works closely with translink to represent the interest of passengers. We take complaints from passengers and work with translink to seek improvements based on what passengers have told us. however, we do not independently monitor translink and while we seek to ensure translink's policies are in the interest of passengers we do not sanction them. i will be raising this issue with translink to seek confirmation on the information being given to consumers. the Consumer Council is here to represent the interests of passengers and if any have received a response to a complaint from translink that they are unsatisfied with, they should contact the Consumer Council on 0800 121 6022.
