Unionists using British definition of morality

I'M afraid I digress from Brian Feeney's article on Zimbabwe (August 8).

Actually I refer to the tone of the article which focuses on the British outrage at Mugabe's election where they, as Mr Feeney describes it, are taking the moral high ground.

Now, I know this statelet is not the centre of the universe but it is where we live.

And the word 'moral' in British government activities here is frankly one they could not spell.

The outspill of British involvement here (and many places elsewhere) has caused untold grief every day. Mainstream republicans have for the past 15 years shown incredible patience in seeking a just peace and equitable society. The response by unionists/loyalists has been minimalist. Where is the unionist leadership?

Mr Feeney is correct in questioning British 'morality', its absence patently clear. The British have left a mess. Republicans have come up to the mark addressing this.

I await in hope to see similar risk taking by the unionist leadership.

It appears that unionists are taking the British definition of morality - "we will do what we want and the rest of you can live (or die) with that".
