Sectarian unionism unwilling to embrace equality

t hE inability of the PsNI to enforce a legal Parades Commission determination in Belfast city

centre on Friday night, because of another loyalist insurrection, confirms beyond doubt that the northern statelet is a failed political entity and orange disorder/unionist anarchy continues to undermine any so-called political agreements and institutions. Undoubtedly many have tried to make this place work but it is now time to face reality and admit the truth - supremacist, sectarian unionism is unwilling to embrace any sort of equality or parity of esteem for the Catholic population. Politics can never function in such a context. what other civilised society would tolerate the hateful behaviour and mindset of an element driven solely by

a genetic hatred of another religion and who self-style themselves as 'the people'? the hatred and violent thuggery displayed by loyalism and unionism since december 2012 has been shameful and would put them outside the pale in most constitutional systems but not in the black north. over the past eight months unionism has refused to accept decisions from a democratically elected council, broken determinations from legal institutions like the Parades Commission and shown blatant disregard for every law and regulation going. we have seen senior unionist politicians consistently justify all of the above, constantly stoke the flames with their inflammatory language, effectively encourage and cheerlead

and flatly refuse to condemn the mayhem inflicted on us. Instead of being ostracised and condemned this behaviour has been indulged and excused by both British and Irish governments who have buried their heads as they don't have to live with it. over the past two years nationalists have endured, with great restraint and tolerance, 1000s of unionist parades. Many of these were conducted in the most despicable, triumphalist manner imaginable with no regard whatsoever for nationalists. the northern state was founded on unionist/loyalist threats and anarchy and now it fading out to unionist mayhem - it is quite apt.
