THE people of Crossmaglen have voted for a united Ireland in Sinn Fein's 'people's referendum'. This is basically a sectarian headcount in that the area is overwhelmingly nationalist.
In due course Sinn Fein will ignite similar sectarian headcounts in the hope of propelling forward the demand for an official border poll. Yet, the Good Friday Agreement specifically asserts the right to live in freedom from 'sectarian harassment'. Not to mention their right to identify themselves and be accepted as British.
So, a united Ireland is not a very simple and straightforward yes or no question. As the failure of the IRA's 25-year terror campaign/armed struggle underlined.
