ATM thefts must be stopped

YET another ATM was stolen at the weekend, bringing more warnings that the string of similar thefts is causing serious problems for local businesses and communities.

Not all, but most of these crimes have been perpetrated in rural areas, inevitably causing inconvenience to that community and more seriously, causing severe damage to the business attacked.

The owner of the shop attacked on Saturday night on the outskirts of Dungiven said that he probably would not reinstal a cash dispensing machine, acknowledging that people living in the area would lose out.

It remains to be seen if the fact that the digger used to rip the machine from the wall was not burned will leave evidence for the PSNI to go on. But irrespective of that it is essential that the public come forward with information to help stop what is in reality an attack on communities.
