Belfast International Airport needs to get its act together

Concerns have been growing for some time over not only the serious delays regularly experienced by the public during security procedures at Belfast International Airport but also the basic levels of organisation there.

Matters reached a new low yesterday as the queue of frustrated passengers stretched well outside the main arrivals building on a freezing cold morning, with dozens eventually missing their flights and a series of complaints made about the lack of information available from staff.

Airport officials insisted that the delays were caused by work on the expansion of search lanes which is due to be completed by Easter but there can be no doubt about the damage caused to the facility’s reputation.

It is inevitable that many travellers will simply take their business elsewhere and Belfast International must realise the urgent need to improve its performance.
