Generous gesture across the community

THE donation of a digital organ to the music department of a Catholic grammar school by a Presbyterian church has been quite rightly described as a “gesture of goodwill across the community”.

St Malachy’s College in north Belfast was the beneficiary of the generous donation made by Fortwillian and Macrory Presbyterian Church on Antrim Road which closed because of a dwindling congregation.

The school and the church have a history of shared projects, including outreach concerts, and no doubt both have benefited from the experiences.

The Antrim Road church has amalgamated with Whitehouse Presbyterian Church, bringing to an end the 133-year history of the former. However, by their generosity the congregation have ensured that a part of their church will be kept alive in north Belfast.
