Carl Frampton’s open air win over Luke Jackson in front of 24,000 boxing fans at Windsor Park in Belfast on Saturday night was a memorable occasion by any standards.
Frampton’s convincing victory means that he will almost certainly get the opportunity to fight for a world championship later in the year.
He is entitled to be regarded as among the outstanding Irish sporting figures of the modern era and there will be strong hopes that he will bring the title back to the city where he is held in such high esteem.
