Relief over Sean Cox's recovery
There will be enormous relief that Sean Cox (53), a father of three from Dunboyne in Co Meath, has at last regained consciousness, almost three months after he suffered a brutal assault while attending a Champions League game in Liverpool.
Mr Cox was left in a coma when he was the victim of an unprovoked street attack shortly before the match between the home side and Roma at Anfield stadium, and two Italian men were subsequently charged with violent disorder.
There were fears that he might not survive, but prolonged and dedicated treatment after his transfer to a Dublin hospital has eventually led to a marked improvement in his condition.
It is clear that the medical staff have worked tirelessly on his behalf and there will be strong hopes that further positive reports about Mr Cox's progress can follow.
