Anger over racist abuse of west Belfast child

There can be no place in any section of our society for racist behaviour and there will be particular anger over the verbal abuse directed against an 18-month-old boy in west Belfast.

A mother who was pushing her child in a pram along the Falls Road, as we reported yesterday, has spoken of her shock after a woman passer-by screamed an outburst of hatred, including the n-word, at them.

Police officers investigating the incident which took place at noon on Monday have issued a detailed description of the perpetrator, and it is essential that she is brought before the courts.

The victims should also know that the vast majority of people in west Belfast and everywhere else are appalled by the ordeal they suffered.
