Sadness and relief for Paul Conlon's family

The massive search for the former champion boxer Paul Conlon, since he was seen entering the River Lagan close to the centre of Belfast nine weeks ago on one of the coldest nights of the year, could only have placed his relatives and friends under huge strain.

There will be enormous relief that his body was finally recovered and arrangements for the funeral of the 44-year-old, a well known barber in the west of the city, can be completed.

His brother, Jim, deserves considerable praise for encouraging anyone who suffers from any form of depression to come forward and seek help.

The entire community also owes a debt of gratitude to the voluntary rescue groups who worked so tirelessly in difficult conditions to achieve the outcome so badly needed by the Conlon family.
