Historic achievement for Ireland

THE IRELAND rugby team's grand slam achievement completed with Saturday's win over England at Twickenham will be remembered for many years to come.

A tremendous team commitment was the main highlight of the five-game series, although moments of brilliance also lit up the wins. Johnny Sexton's last kick of the game turned defeat into victory over France at the Stade de France and take your pick from any of Jacob Stockdale's seven tries which were so instrumental in bringing the silverware back to Ireland in only the third grand slam ever achieved by the team.

The only defeat suffered by Joe Schmidt's charges came at the hands of the weather which meant the cancellation of a public homecoming scheduled for yesterday at the Aviva Stadium.
