Huge courage of Belfast pharmacists

Pharmacists Paul McDonagh and Peter Wright endured an appalling ordeal when they were attacked by an intruder wielding a knife during a robbery at their west Belfast premises last April.

One was stabbed in the chest while his colleague suffered a blade wound to his arm, but astonishingly both were back behind their counter on the Falls Road the following day.

They helped to ensure that urgent medication was dispensed and that the pharmacy was cleaned and ready for business in the morning to minimise disruption to patients.

Their commitment to their profession and the wider community was outstanding and, as we reported yesterday, it was entirely appropriate that their bravery was recognised through special awards presented in a ceremony at Titanic Belfast.
