HURRICANE Irma had by last night devastated a number of small islands in the Caribbean, caused severe damage in Cuba and was beginning to make landfall in Florida.
The next few days will be crucial for millions of people living in the state as the super storm slowly makes its way northwards, with the authorities unable to do much more than react to damage and emergencies as they occur.
A number of people posted on social media that all they could do now was pray to come through the hurricane safely and with minimal damage to their homes. While prayer may be the only course of action open now, surely meteorological events such as this should give us pause for thought and in particular to consider the affects human behaviour may be having on the earth's climate.
