Take care this bank holiday

IT IS A sad fact that accidental deaths very often increase at holiday times. At weekend a motorcyclist died in a crash in Co Down while a woman drowned in Co Fermanagh.

At time of writing little about the exact circumstances of these tragic deaths had been confirmed. It was reported that the drowning victim had fallen off a vessel at a popular mooring point on Lough Erne and that a man who was reported to have attempted to rescue the victim was hospitalised and has since been released.

Today, a bank holiday, there were will be many more vehicles on the roads as families go in search of some late summer fun.

The Antrim coast road could be particularly busy with the Auld Lammas Fair being held in Ballycastle.

There is even a chance that the sun might make an appearance with temperatures perhaps reaching as high as 21C.

With proper care and attention there is no reason why everybody should not be able to enjoy the last official holiday of this summer.

Part of that care and attention must be every road user realising their responsibility to their passengers and to other road users and in particular making sure they do not exceed speed limits.

Likewise everyone needs to be aware of the dangers of visiting rivers, lakes and the sea.
