Anguish over death of little Julian Cadman

There will be enormous regret that seven-year-old Julian Cadman was yesterday named as the latest fatality from last week’s appalling terror attack in Spain.

Julian, who had joint British-Australian nationality, had been missing since a van ploughed into densely packed crowds in the centre of Barcelona on Thursday, causing carnage and at least 14 deaths.

His mother, Jom, was among the injured, and remains in a serious condition in hospital, but, in all the confusion and upheaval after the outrage, no definite information could be established about Julian.

Members of his family travelled from Australia to search for him, and shared his photograph through social media as they made a public appeal for help.

It was an agonising period but officials were finally able to confirm yesterday that the child was among those who were killed at the scene in Las Ramblas.

There will be huge sympathy for all the victims and total determination that any surviving perpetrators will be brought to justice.
