Motorbike racer's death a dreadful tragedy

The death of competitor Jamie Hodson at the Ulster Grand Prix is an absolute tragedy which will once again focus attention on the safety of motorbike racing in Northern Ireland.

Mr Hodson, aged 35, from Wigan, was killed in a crash during a race at the Dundrod road circuit on Thursday.

Two other riders were also critically injured this week.

Sadly, Jamie Hodson is the latest road racer to die in a sport that has witnessed a shocking toll of death.

Efforts have been made to improve safety but this fatal crash shows that the sport continues to present an extremely high risk to participants.
