Regret over retirement of Daniel Day-Lewis

Daniel Day-Lewis has already secured his place in cinema history as the only person to win three best actor Academy Awards, but there will still be enormous regret over the announcement that he has made his last film at the age of 60.

The star, who lives in Co Wicklow, was particularly revered in Ireland for his iconic roles in movies like My Left Foot and In The Name Of The Father, and also holds joint Irish and British citizenship.

Although he is known to be a very private individual, and has made it clear that he does not intend to make any further comment about the end of an outstanding career, his many fans will nonetheless wish him a long and happy retirement.
