Anger over Antrim bridge vandalism

It is almost beyond belief that vandals could have deliberately tried to cut through the ropes securing the legendary Carrick-a-Rede bridge in Co Antrim.

Many visitors were bitterly disappointed yesterday to discover the enforced closure of the attraction, which is suspended almost 100 ft above sea level and allows pedestrians to walk between two cliffs near Ballintoy.

The perpetrators should be ashamed of their actions, which might easily have had grave consequences, but the praiseworthy efforts of the National Trust means that the spectacular crossing point could be back in use within a matter of weeks.
