Anger over west Belfast robbery

There will be widespread disgust over yesterday's robbery in broad daylight on a busy street in west Belfast in which a visitor from France was targeted.

As our dramatic front page photograph today illustrates, the tourist courageously fought back against an assailant on a bike who attempted to steal his camera bag close to the International Wall on the Falls Road.

Given the recent high level of general crime in the area, it is essential that the perpetrator, who escaped empty-handed, is brought to justice.

However, it is also important for the victim, who was assisted by two passers-by, to know that the vast majority of people both in west Belfast and across the wider community are appalled by his ordeal and will wish to offer their sympathy and support to him.
