Pearson's welcome investment in Belfast

Yesterday's confirmation that Pearson, the leading publisher, is opening a finance centre in Belfast which will employ up to 300 people, is a significant and strongly positive development.

Pearson is by any standards a major company, with an international workforce of 35,000, which previously owned The Financial Times and now concentrates on supplying material to the higher education sector in the US.

The launch of its Belfast operation, which was first revealed in The Irish News last year, has been supported by both Invest NI and the Department of the Economy, and all those involved in completing the deal deserve considerable credit.
