Public must be protected at Yorkgate station

There is a danger that the measures which have been introduced to prevent anti-social and criminal behaviour in the vicinity of Yorkgate railway station in Belfast will simply move the problems elsewhere.

Pathways have been upgraded, heavy foliage has been removed and police patrols have been stepped up in and around the complex over recent weeks.

It remains essential that the statutory authorities provide as much support as possible for homeless people and also help those who have issues with alcohol or substance abuse.

However, the children who play in the area, train passengers and the general public can certainly not be left exposed to the well documented activities of gangs of drug dealers.
