Positive gesture at St Patrick's

The opening of a soup kitchen at St Patrick's Church in Belfast city centre tonight is a notable initiative which will offer both personal support and practical help to some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

It is disappointing that, just 48 hours earlier, fire crews had to attend the second arson attack in the space of three months inside the historic Donegall Street building, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015.

However, the actions of mindless vandals will always be in stark contrast to the commendable work of charitable volunteers on behalf of those experiencing poverty and homelessness within the community.
