Dismay over sectarian attacks
While police are still investigating the separate attacks on a parochial house in Co Fermanagh and a memorial to the late PUP leader David Ervine in Belfast, there will be obvious fears that both were motivated by blatant sectarianism.
Detectives are treating the targeting of Fr Joe McVeigh's home in a rural area outside the village of Lisbellaw, during which most of the ground floor windows were smashed, as a hate crime.
The attempt to vandalise the tribute to Mr Ervine in east Belfast, which also involved an assault on his party colleague Dr John Kyle, was equally outrageous.
Provocative incidents of this kind should have no place in any section of our society, and the perpetrators fully deserve to be brought before the courts.
