Concern over Ulsterbus fire

The level of damage sustained by the Ulsterbus which caught fire while travelling along a busy road in Co Armagh yesterday demonstrated that the driver and passengers were fortunate to escape without injury.

It is understood that the outbreak which caused the back of the vehicle to be engulfed in flames was caused by an engine fault, but it is essential that the full circumstances are swiftly established and made public.

The motorists who spotted the blaze outside Lurgan and overtook the coach before alerting the driver to the danger deserve enormous credit for intervening so quickly.

Had it not been for their prompt actions, lives could have been very much at risk before the emergency services arrived on the scene.
