Fish kill needs to be fully investigated

The chemical leak which killed 1,600 fish in the Carrig River near Newcastle, Co Down is a matter of serious concern.

Northern Ireland Water, which blamed the leak on a cracked pipe, must take all necessary steps to restock the river and ensure the water is safe and clean.

However, it is worrying that such a devastating leak has occurred at all and that a government agency is responsible. Clearly there needs to be a thorough investigation and action taken to prevent future fish kills.
