Larne still has some burning issues
The organisers of loyalist bonfires have repeatedly stressed over recent months that they intend to maintain strict controls over the range of items dumped for burning this July.
However, their message has clearly not been fully accepted at one site at Larne in Co Antrim where, as we reported yesterday, a silver Ford Focus car has been abandoned among the material left for incineration during the Eleventh Night celebrations.
Environmentalists who have expressed concern over the toxic consequences of such pyres may not be completely reassured to find the tyres have already been removed from the vehicle in question.
It can be expected that the car will be duly towed away from the Craigyhill estate by the authorities but the indications are that a full consensus has yet to be reached in the wider debate over bonfire management.
