Time to resolve the Nairac case

Enormous progress has been made in recent years over the harrowing saga of The Disappeared, the individuals who were abducted, murdered and secretly buried by republicans decades ago.

However, at least four bodies have still to be recovered, and the Commission for the Location of Victims Remains last night made a specific appeal for help over the case of the British soldier Captain Robert Nairac, who is believed to have been killed in south Armagh in 1977.

There have been suggestions that some people in the border region have been reluctant to provide the commission with the assistance it requires in relation to Captain Nairac.

All the grieving families linked to The Disappeared deserve to be able to give their loved ones a Christian funeral service, and it must be hoped that no distinction is drawn between any of the outstanding cases.
