Public transport users need answers
There will be enormous relief that the accident which resulted in an Ulsterbus crashing onto a beach near Newtownards in Co Down yesterday morning did not have much more serious consequences.
The driver escaped with minor injuries, as we report today, and very fortunately the bus was not carrying any passengers at the time, no other vehicles were involved and the emergency services responded very effectively at the scene.
However, the photographs of the waters of Strangford Lough rising around the coach demonstrate all too vividly what could have happened if a school service had plunged through the same wall.
In order to reassure all users of public transport, it is essential that the results of the investigation which is already under way are published without delay.
