Hopes for Ronan Clarke's recovery

There has been enormous concern across Ireland over the head injury sustained during a GAA match in Armagh which left the former All Star Ronan Clarke in a medically induced coma.

Mr Clarke insisted on playing on after colliding with a goalpost last Friday night, but his condition deteriorated rapidly afterwards and his family have been at his side in Craigavon area hospital ever since.

It was particularly poignant that Mr Clarke (32), a key member of Armagh's All Ireland winning side of 2002, had interrupted his honeymoon to take part in the important championship match for his Pearse Og club.

There have been positive signs about his condition in recent days and there will be widespread hopes within the GAA community and beyond that he makes a full recovery.
