Businessman left an indelible mark

JOE Kavanagh was nothing less than a legend in Belfast and the 'IBuy Anything' slogan above his Smithfield store was a landmark in the area for generations.

As well as being a hugely successful businessman, he was a tireless charity fund-raiser with a particularly close association with the Mater hospital.

Mr Kavanagh, who has died at the age of 97, left an indelible mark on his native city in many different ways, and will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all those who recognised a unique commercial talent at work.
