AN online video has revealed the Irish rugby team bus was guided through the streets of Rome by a "lunatic" police escort ahead of yesterday's Six Nations clash with Italy.

A video posted on Saturday shows the team bus being escorted through the city by a sole Italian police car driving in what appears to be an erratic fashion.

The blue police car can be seen speeding ahead of the bus and swerving across the road into traffic on several occasions, while the video also shows the policeman gesturing with his hand with what appears to be a small mirror outside the window to other motorists.

The behaviour is greeted with laughter by the players and coaches on the bus, with one heard to call the driver a "lunatic".

A separate video posted by Ireland prop, Dave Kilcoyne also shows the events of Saturday afternoon unfold, with someone on the bus describing the driver's actions as "so aggressive", while another suggested the police man was trying to "do the bus".

Ireland played their third match of the 2019 Six Nations against Italy in Rome yesterday. A stuttering Ireland tiptoed out of Rome with an unconvincing 26-16 victory.

After an opening round defeat to England in Dublin, the the 2018 champions recovered to record a 22-13 victory against Scotland in Edinburgh, two weeks ago.
