New US law enforcement device can safely stop speeding car in its tracks
COULD this device be what the PSNI and An Garda Síochána need to safely stop joyriders and speeding suspects?
It has been created by an American to be used by a car travelling behind the speeding car which basically lassoes it's back wheel, causing it to stop.
It's as fast and furious as many of the police/offender speed chases can turn out.
And it's got to be seen in action to be believed.
The Grappler Police Bumper was created by a start-up company who wanted to aid law enforcement in the capture of suspects and says it has created a device capable of locking a wheel of a speeding car and forcing it to stop.
The Grappler Police Bumper was designed to help police safely capture suspects avoiding arrest, and features various deployment methods to suit different situations.
The “tethered snag” activates the device with a flip of a switch, accomplishing a prompt and controlled stop. The “non-tethered snag” is best suited for fast lanes – while it won’t stop necessarily stop a suspect in their tracks, it will flatten their tyre leaving a long skid mark for easy tracking.
The device is easily concealable and the tether can be released at any point – before, during or after a stop is made.
After several years of research, design and development, the Grappler is now at the early stages of manufacture – although several devices have already been produced and offered to law enforcement agencies to try.
