Woman stranded in forest gives birth, then survives for three days before being rescued

A heavily pregnant woman who got lost and ran out of petrol on a remote country road gave birth alone, then survived for three days before starting a forest fire that drew rescuers’ attention.

Amber Pangborn, 35, was stranded in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California since she lost her bearings early last Thursday.

That morning she gave birth to a baby girl on the backseat of her car before surviving on apples and water for nearly three days. She said there was no mobile phone signal and she was forced to fight off mosquitoes, as well as bees that seemed attracted to the placenta.

By Saturday, she still hadn’t been found so, according to her mum, she started a fire as a call for help, but it got a bit out of hand.

The US Forest Service said it found a mother and an infant while responding to a brush fire.

Thankfully mother and baby, named Marissa, were OK but were taken to hospital to get checked over.
