Schoolboy (7) dies after car collision as he walked to school

A SCHOOLBOY has died after he was involved in a road traffic collision as he walked to school.

The seven-year-old boy was walking on Sherborn Crescent in the Canford Heath area of Poole, Dorset, when he was in collision with a Peugeot 107 shortly after 8am.

The boy, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to Poole Hospital with critical injuries but died later.

His family is being supported by specially trained officers, a Dorset Police spokesman said.

Inspector Matt Butler, who is investigating the incident, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"It is with great sadness I inform you that the boy involved in the collision this morning has died," he said.

"Our thoughts are with his family. Officers are continuing to liaise with local schools to give reassurances and to offer assistance at this difficult time.

"There were a number of people in the area at the time of the collision and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, and has not yet spoken to police, to please contact us as soon as possible."
