A BAG containing tens of thousands of pounds was stolen from a McLaren supercar after by-standers took selfies near the vehicle, police have said.

West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to the "unusual" robbery, in which winnings from a bet were snatched during a struggle in Birmingham city centre.

The victim, a 52-year-old man, was sitting in the distinctive orange McLaren on New Meeting Street on April 22, and had left the cash on the passenger seat.

The West Midlands force said in a statement: "At around 3.30pm two men forced open the car door.

"There was a struggle and they managed to wrench the bag of cash from the man's grip.

"Prior to the robbery, a group of young men took selfies next to the car. They may have uploaded these to social media sites such as Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook.

"We believe they witnessed the robbery and may have even pocketed some of the stolen cash."

One of the suspects is described as a light-skinned black man, aged between 20 and 22 years old, about 6ft, with an athletic build and short black hair. He was wearing black jeans and a dark top.

A second suspect, wearing a grey hooded coat, is believed to be a dark-skinned black man, aged between 22 and 24 years old, about 5ft 7ins and slim with dreadlocks.
