A LICENSE application for a number of Garth Brooks gigs in Dublin next year has attracted 122 submissions and observations.

More than a third of responses to Dublin City Council were positive, urging the planning authorities to give the concerts the go-ahead.

Last month, Aiken Promotions lodged an application for an outdoor event licence.

This related to two concert dates at Croke Park, on September 16 and 17, 2022.

The venue has already been given the go-ahead for three other dates on September 9, 10 and 11 under its special event licence.

The closing date for submissions or observations was October 12 and the application is said to be "still under adjudication".

The Irish Independent revealed that Dublin City Council had received 122 submissions and observations in response to the application.

One-third of all the submissions were positive.

Among the bodies supporting the proposals are Ticketmaster Ireland, the Licensed Vintners Association, Fáilte Ireland, the Irish Hotels Federation and the Irish Country Music Association.

Donal O’Keeffe, from the LVA, said the concerts represented a "significant opportunity for the wider hospitality sector" following the "catastrophic impact" of Covid-19.

Keith English, Managing Director of Ticketmaster Ireland, said the live entertainment industry was trying to emerge from an "extremely difficult period", with the lifting of restrictions on October 22 "the light at the end of the tunnel".
