The Republic’s Health Service Executive (HSE) says the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Letterkenny University Hospital will not be affected by a huge fire at a warehouse in the town.

Thousands of euros in damage was caused when fire swept through the huge warehouse in the Kiltoy area of Letterkenny on Monday evening. The blaze also caused extensive damage at a nearby HSE facility used to store PPE as well as health supplies including hospital beds, wheelchairs and nebulisers.

The Donegal Fire Service was called to the scene shortly before 6pm. A huge plume of smoke and flames could be seen throughout the area as fire fighters fought for several hours to bring the blaze under control.

As investigations into the cause of the fire was continuing. The HSE moved to reassure that PPE supplies for Letterkenny University Hospital would be maintained. It also said the hospital had adequate supplies of PPE and further items would be dispatched to both the hospital and Donegal Community Services from HSE stores in Sligo.
