Another five people with Covid-19 have died in the Republic of Ireland, the National Public Health Emergency Team said, bringing the overall death toll to 1,705.

There werer 46 new cases reported, bringing the total number to 25,295. However, 22 of the 46 samples were taken on Monday and Tuesday and would normally have been reported on Thursday and Friday but due to technical reasons are being reported today. 

Contact tracing has already been undertaken for the majority of these cases, the National Public Health Emergency Team said.

In the north, there were two further coronavirus-linked deaths reported, taking the total recorded by the Department of Health to 541.

There were three new confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 4,841 since the pandemic began.
