Boy (4) from Cork dies in Spain after pool incident

A FOUR-year-old boy from Cork who was critically ill following an incident at a swimming pool in Spain has died.

The toddler, named locally as Avery Greene from Mallow, had been holidaying with his family on the Costa Blanca when the incident happened.

The alert was raised at around 9.15am on Monday at the Aldeas de Aguamarina Villas in Cabo Roig, about 50km south of Alicante.

According to local media, the child was spotted unconscious in the pool.

Police said he was airlifted to hospital after attempts to resuscitate him.

However, he died on Tuesday, the Guardia Civil confirmed.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family.
