A man has been arrested following the death of another man in a stabbing incident in Dublin.

The victim, aged 45, was fatally injured at around 4am on Friday at Clinch's Court in the North Strand area of the city.

Gardaí said he was taken to the Mater Hospital where he later died.

A postmortem examination was due to be carried out on Friday afternoon by state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

A second man, also in his mid-forties, was injured in the incident. He was taken to St James Hospital for treatment.

The scene at Clinch's Court was sealed off for a forensic examination.

The suspect, who is also 45, was taken into custody on Friday morning and is being detained at Mountjoy Garda Station.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in the area between 3am and 4.15am to come forward.

They also urged any taxi drivers with dashcam footage from the area to get in contact.
