A WOMAN gave birth to a baby girl yesterday on board a train travelling from Galway to Heuston in Dublin.

It happened on the 3.05pm rail service and it's understood the woman went into labour as the train neared Kildare station.

Medics were identified on the train and helped to deliver the baby.

The train was delayed at the station for about 80 minutes. An ambulance was called and brought the woman and her newborn daughter to hospital.

"Irish Rail wishes her and her new baby well," said a spokesman for Irish Rail.

The train continued its journey to its Dublin destination after the woman and her newborn were taken to hospital.
