A FUNDRAISING page has been set up to help the family of Stephen Marron who was killed when a car fleeing Garda officers in Co Monaghan crashed into his vehicle.

Stephen Marron (47), who was sitting in a parked Skoda Octavia on Main Street in Castleblaney, died in the incident last week that also saw a Garda officer dragged 500 metres by a speeding Audi.

The gofundme page, which has raise over €2,500 of its €5,000 goal, was set up by family friend April Finnegan. She paid tribute to Mr Marron, saying: "Stephen was a very important part of the community of Castleblayney - a genuinely kind and loving gentleman.

"Always willing to give a helping hand to those in need, volunteering with and promoting sport through local football club Blayney Rovers and a long history with local hurling teams, spreading faith and prayer through his works in the church,  providing hot and wholesome dinners for those in need through Meals on Wheels - to name but a few of his local heroics."

Ms Finnegan said she hoped the page would help the Marron family with funeral costs and Christmas.

"This aim of this fundraising page is to give a helping hand to Stephen's loving wife Helen and his beautiful children in their time of need - to help with upcoming funeral and memorial cost and to make sure Santa Claus is extra generous to the Marron kiddies this Christmas," she said.

A 34-year-old man from south Armagh has been charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Mr Marron.
