Co Donegal teacher dies after falling from balcony in Dubai
A TEACHER from Co Donegal has died after falling from a balcony in Dubai.
Emmett Blain, who was in his late 20s and from the Mountcharles area, had moved to the United Arab Emirates last year to take up a teaching post.
It is understood that the incident happened on Friday night.
Mr Blain had taught in the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town and in St Eunan's College in Letterkenny before moving abroad.
In a statement on its Facebook page, St Eunan's College said Mr Blain was "well liked" and a "great character".
"Everybody in Saint Eunan's College would like to send their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Emmett Blain.
"Emmett was well liked in the classroom and a great character in the staff room - he will be remembered fondly by everybody who met him. Rest in peace Emmett."
Mr Blain was a member of St Naul's GAA club, and is believed to be a nephew of Noel Hegarty, a member of Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland winning side.
St Naul's club secretary, Mary Coughlan, said: "He was a really lovely person and a wonderful footballer.
"All at the club would like to express our sorrow and regret at his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed by all at the club and in the community," she told The Irish Times.
The Irish embassy is providing assistance to Mr Blain's family, while police in Dubai have launched an investigation.
