UP to 300 people could leave RTÉ as part of a redundancy and early retirement scheme.

Under the terms of the package, those with more than 10 years' service will be offered four weeks' pay per year, plus statutory redundancy, capped at two years' pay.

Those with less than ten years will receive two weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy.

RTÉ's director general Dee Forbes has said if up to 300 people leave it will impact on content and services.

But she said job cuts are needed because the broadcaster is in a difficult financial situation.

Earlier this year, RTÉ announced a deficit of €20 million for 2016.
